Clarence Jr. was diagnosed with autism in the late 1960s, when he was just a toddler (pictured) . Back then, there was a lot of confusion about the developmental disorder. Today, the medical community has a much better handle on the condition which affects about 1 in every 68 Americans! No one would have ever guessed back in the 1960s and 1970s that Clarence Jr. would be the man who is he today: An author, cartoonist and engaging public speaker! Most people shunned Clarence Jr. when he was a kid - now his fans gravitate to him for autographs! Who Knew!
Lightswitch Learning proudly features Uncle Biggy in their best-selling "Make it Happen" Series. The book shares his journey with intimate portraits of his family and most importantly - his cartoons! With the help of his pencils and his family, Big Boy has come out of his shell, turning his drawings into educational materials to help others that have had their lives affected by autism. To become a cartoonist Big Boy had to be disciplined, work hard, have a plan, and of course collaborate with others. His story will show young readers, how they too, can Make It Happen!
